Heaven is a good subject Yeah, heaven is a good subject and there's a lot of wrong ideas about yeah And a lot of mystery about a mystery about it too because well, let's look at John chapter 14 he says Jesus said in Verse one, but not your heart be troubled you believe in God believe also in me in my father's house are many mansions man if it were not so I would have told you I go to prepare a place for you and if I go and Prepare a place for you. I will come again and receive you to myself that where I am there you may be also Okay, and where I go, you know, and the way, you know, and then Thomas said to him Lord We do not know where you're going. How can we know the way?

So we have this idea in my father's house are many mansions we think of a mansion is like something, you know, a huge ornate Victorian house or a Mar-a-lago or something like our castle or many Dwelling places right now. There is there's a picture here that a lot of times we don't see that when Someone was marrying The wedding ceremony in those days there was a betrothal a man would make him a betrothal to a lady and Then he would go away Mm-hmm and prepare a Extra room or a place in his father's house for this bride come at an unexpected time He would come to receive the bride the bride had to always be ready and he would bring her to his Father's house and she would abide there. And so this is what they would stay yeah, this is kind of the they would come and pick her up and lift her up and take her with and so this is kind of a analogy to the Galilean weddings Process, you know the with the engagement and the and the actual marriage but Jesus here He's comforting his disciples because they have been he's been telling them over and over. I'm leaving I'm leaving I'm leaving and this actually this Dissertation is in the middle of the Last Supper

4:31 They had just finished washing the feet of the he had just finished washing the feet of the disciples And so this is kind of sorrowful zombies. They're gonna portray them. This is their Last Supper He's been alluding to going to the cross and now they are seriously getting it. I think they're they're concerned They don't know where he's going. What's gonna happen to them? So this is kind of where we are a lot of the times in our lives. What's gonna happen in? Unfortunately, the devil has so minimized the concept of heaven and eternal life that most people are really focused on just Surviving down here. They don't have much You know stored up for having their treasures in heaven. Well, they don't have much stored up there They didn't know if they're gonna get there how to get there So we're gonna look at heaven for a few minutes here in Luke chapter 16. We have a interesting It's not actually a parable that Jesus told it. It's a story. He told of a certain rich man So that means there was he's probably referring to a certain person Yeah This rich man was clothed in purple and fine linen linen and fared sumptuously every day in other words he had plenty to eat beautiful food and they're laid at his day at his gate a Beggar a certain beggar named Lazarus full of sores who was laid at his feet now here the interesting thing about this this whole Story, which Jesus tells only in the book of Luke the gospel of Luke that they were this poor man was just Wanting to just have the crumbs that fell from the rich man's table and the rich man was so cold-hearted

6:04 He didn't even notice it or he didn't care or he didn't do anything to her help that poor man have food Even the dogs were more compassionate because they licked his sores But then when the beggar died, he was carried away listen to this by the angels into Abrams boozin's boozin So many times people will at a deathbed. They'll see what there was an angel or I saw Lord, there's some kind of spiritual Him, I don't know what you call it a spiritual out of this world encounter with with an angel or with a being That transports their loved one from that deathbed to into the the bosom of Abraham or into heaven So the rich man also died and was buried It says he wasn't carried by any angels and being in torments in Hades He lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom So let's look about and Hades for a minute. What is Hades?

7:01 Jerry you kind of look that up. Well Hades. There's a lot of things. We know a lot of things We don't know about the yeah afterlife. Yeah Hades it's kind of a Greek term for the for the realm of the dead Okay, temporary abode, right temporary boat You know Hades is really when we look at it in the from the biblical perspective it's the place of the wicked dead the spirits of the wicked dead or as a temporary place and we'll learn more when we Read about Lazarus here. So Hades them just to add more one more thing Hades is the Greek word for the Hebrew word Sheol So Hades and Sheol are the same word only one's Greek and one's Hebrew And so I'm that with this that's why we the New Testament is written in Greek. So the Old Testament in Hebrew so that's what we have two different words for the same place, which is again a temporary abode for the wicked and Abraham's bosom obviously is a temporary abode for what we would call paradise because he said he was he saw Abraham Abraham afar off and a and Lazarus in his bosom. So this is a Let's see, let's see. Where's that word? Well, it's a it's a it's a in paradise It's really Abraham's bosom and paradise in G and the thief on the cross that died that that believed Jesus said today you shall be with me in paradise

8:33 so it's it's basically paradise is also a temporary temporary abode apparently a temporary abode of the right departed right righteous right people good and and So and but then in in Verse 23 of Luke 16 he said in being in torments in Hades this this rich man lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus and Lazarus in his bosom And he cried and said father Abraham have mercy on me and sent Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his Finger in water to cool my tongue So in other words In this flame, so it's it's like a foretaste of what we think of as hell hell and Hades are kind of used interchangeably interchangeably in our thinking a lot of times but actually Hades is a place. It's kind of like a forerunner of hell It's kind of like a prelude to what we think of as hell Which is the lake of fire?

9:39 So revelations, you know, yeah, you Hannah is the word for hell and It's it's kind of like there was a dump outside of Jerusalem That were the fire would burn all the time people just there was a flame and there people were just burning trash burning trash burning trash and That's really a picture Jesus gave of what it's going to be like For those who reject the gospel who are going to be eternally in the lake of fire it's also referred to as the Second death. Yeah, and it says there's a physical death and then there's the eternal death the internal spiritual death in this place of torment No permanent lake of fire. There's no getting out of that like a fire and it says that that when there was torment when when The rich man was tormented in this place And as we said that that torment caused him to plead with Abraham who he saw there was a great gulf fixed between the paradise You know the rich the rich man was in hell or in Hades Hades and he saw Lazarus he saw him, you know, whatever that Happened to me and so he asked Abraham to send Lazarus to dip his finger in a drop of water to cool the rich man's tongue and then there was a

11:09 Then and then he cried out and said father Abraham have mercy on me and said Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his Finger in water and cool my tongue for I am tormented in this flame But Abraham said son remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and likewise Lazarus evil things But now he is comforted and you are tormented and besides this he says there's that between us and you there's that great gulf fixed so that That those who want to pass from here to you cannot come nor can those from their past to us So they couldn't get past this this chasm this barrier It's a final separation But then he then the second begging that the rich man said well Please then send send him or send someone to my for my five brothers who are still alive They may all may not come to this place of torment so now finally the rich man is having some compassion even on others if it wouldn't help him and Then Abraham made a shocking statement. He said They had Moses and the prophets let them listen to them and he said no father Abraham But if that one goes to them from the dead, they will repent now Remember, this is Jesus talking this and he says and Jesus is but he said to him if they do not hear Moses and the prophets Neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead and Jesus was about to do that about four days later three days Later rise from the dead as he was speaking this parable. So he's saying you know what you have had enough information

12:40 to make the right choice and you have they have Rejected it now as you're still on the earth. You still have a chance to make the right decision So and I want to add something here that the Lord showed us a while back in First second first Peter we people have asked this question What about the people who died before the before in the Old Testament died in the flood died before the cross? You know died before we have this message of salvation and in in Peter addresses that issue actually And it's a very good thing. He did because there's a lot of people that think well God's pretty cruel He you know that first 4,000 years Why did they they didn't have a chance because there wasn't even a salvation across a message to to accept But Peter says here if you want to think about this write this down. Can I read this?

13:31 Yeah, first Peter start with verse 19 and I'm first Peter 3 3 19 Yeah, I'm gonna start with verse 18. I was gonna say that to you Christ Also suffered once for sins the just for the unjust that he might bring us to God being put to death in the flesh But made alive by the Spirit by whom he went and preached to the spirits in prison It says by whom also in my Bible home also Yeah by home also, he went and preached to the spirits in prison who formerly were disobedient When the when once the divine long-suffering waited in the days of Noah while the ark was being prepared in which a few that Is eight souls were saved through water. So what is Noah?

14:17 So what they're referring to is those souls that perished in the flood, you know God was waiting in the days of Noah while the ark was being built and a few that is eight souls were saved But then okay, so we see all these guys He what did he do in verse 19 he says he went and preached to the spirits in prison. Well, where's the prison? What's who's in prison? What's going on? And then he tells you who they were. They were the ones who had You know perished in the flood and Noah's probably in Sheol And then it could be and then if you chapter 4 just sliding down a few verses Any verse 6 he says and for this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead That they might be judged according to men in the flesh but live according to God in the spirit So what I believe happened is when Jesus, you know was dying on the cross died He descended into the belly of hell took back the keys preached pale being Hades and preached to these spirits men spirits in prison And he preached the gospel to them. They also who they were dead, you know But that they might be judged according to men in the flesh but live according to God in the spirit So they were the gospel was preached to them. And then what I believed happened is in Ephesians chapter What is it chapter 4 it says where Jesus tells us he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men So what he did was he?

15:39 Anyone who accepted the gospel who? Believed what he said It says verse in Ephesians chapter 4 When he ascended on high he led captivity captive and gave gifts to men and then verse 9 now this he ascended What does it mean but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? And he who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens That he might fill all things So what he was completing was I believe he preached the gospel of good news the cross I believe he shared with these spirits as souls that have died the Cross and those whosoever will wanted to accept it because they hadn't had a chance to accept the cross So therefore the cross goes forward and backward and it's not like okay those poor guys They live, you know in the wrong time period and they never got a chance to be saved because God is not like that Well, he had it really his justice because it wouldn't have been fair either if they wouldn't have had that chance to come You know and get the gospel priest to them Then invert and then let's go to 2nd Corinthians for a minute in fact in chapter 5 he's talking about you know, we want to know what this is going to look like if we're gonna have a What kind of a body what kind of a deal is happening here?

17:01 So in verse 9, he says I believe I will be saved What kind of a body what kind of a deal is happening here So in the 2nd Corinthians chapter 5 you want to read that or do you have it? Okay. Yeah, that's Chapter 1 Of chapter 5 verse 1. Yeah, but we know that if our earthly house this tent this would be our bodies Physical body is destroyed. We have a building from God a house not made with hands eternal in the heavens For in this we groan earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven If indeed having been clothed we shall not be found naked So so many people that you know We have a body your body is your tent your body's your dwelling place your body is your temple Your body is the place from which you conduct business make choices and decisions Follow Jesus or desert decide not to follow you So your body this we groan because these bodies get old sometimes they are full of pain Sometimes we lose parts of our body. It's it's a tragedy and it's terrifying for some but so we're Eagerly waiting for that new new body and that comes through this being clothed If indeed having been clothed we shall not be found naked So God for it says in verse 4 we groan in this tent Being burdened and because we want to be unclothed or rather clothed with that mortality might be swallowed up in life So this in this mortality is temporary Body that we're living in is temporary and people but make so much of it

18:34 But we want to you know Be good stewards of our body take care of our bodies because those bodies are very important in your ability your energy your strength your anointing And so, you know, it becomes a quite an important thing But when we die this old body, you know Becomes useless. It's it functions no more But but many times people have seen people in heaven and they look very young They look like in their prime and whatever that prime is. It's 25 30, you know 18 I just looking at you know Some pictures recently and the people look so beautiful and young in their prime in there You know in their youth and then they then all these then life sets in and people get Weary and pay and worn out and and drawn out But so he's talking about part of our going to heaven is be losing these old bodies That you know, he says now he was prepared for us This very thing is God who who also has given us the spirit as a guarantee So now, you know, we're guaranteed we're gonna be clothed with not with life eternal life. Our bodies are going to be Celestial they're going to be immortal glorified body glorified Yeah, like his like the body of Jesus after he was raised So when Jesus had his glorified body just think of this is kind of weird. He could go through walls He actually went through the wall. He didn't use the door He could have used the door when he was in that room when he met with the Apostles and then they were so scared

20:06 And he says well do you have anything here to eat? So he ate with them they has a honeycomb and I think bread or something and so he ate Solid material items any honeycomb and bread and the solid material items did not fall through his body Even though his body went through a solid item, which was the wall and he could do that So it was kind of up. I don't know It's a body that's in another dimension, yeah Mm-hmm and we have to Yes, so then he realized that When we we go to be with the Lord and receive our glorified bodies will be different We'll be there's a whole new how many dimensions could there be well And we won't be tired and we won't be in pain He said therefore being we're confident knowing that while we are at home in the body We are absent from the Lord. So as long as we're in this body We're not in our other body And then he says in verse 7 and this is a very famous verse where we walk by faith not by sight You know just that little verse in itself where we walk by faith not by sight. Most people walk by feelings They walk by trying to figure things out. They don't walk by trusting in the Word of God or believing that that's possible because they can't imagine you know, how you could walk through a wall and and not be stopped by the material elements of that wall and They can't imagine how you can eat food and it not fall out of you in the same in the same body He says but we are confident. We are confident Yes, well, please rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. So we're excited

21:42 We're looking forward to this translation trans transformation Upgrade whatever you want to call it. But but the issue that really strikes us is The next verse therefore we make it our aim whether present or absent to be well-pleasing to him For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. This is the critical moment That each one may receive the things done in the body According to what he has done whether good or bad this does not mean we're getting to heaven by being good or bad This the only way you get to heaven is through accepting Jesus Christ and the substitution of his death for yours in the payment Of the sin the wages in his death the payment required his death the only way we get to heaven is by accepting that the blood of Jesus to his death and as In a place of our death he says but then after that there is another judgment You know, we get to heaven by accepting Jesus, but once you're there, there's also another Judgment, he says to that each one may receive the things done in the body according to what he's done whether good or bad So there are levels of reward and placement in heaven There are people who have you know are going to be honored with various, you know Whatever that looks like rewards or acknowledgements and and I believe even Gratitude that God is is grateful to us for following Jesus and the end He who seeks to save his life will lose and he loses it for my sake will keep it

23:14 So these kinds of things are all being put weighed in that and that balance so, you know It's not just about getting to heaven some people, you know, hold out and resist God until they're a hundred years old I mean literally a hundred years old They're still not accepting Jesus and God's mercy has left him alive for a hundred years And so then they you know Maybe at the last minute They give their heart to Jesus and maybe some of them out of fear some of them out of reluctance some of them out of Whatever and they get saved but what do they have? What what accomplishment? What what have they? Done really to be rewarded for so it's here. It's your job. It's your choice It's your life. You can you can invest in in the eternal things of heaven You can put heaven and its priorities to be your prayers or you can continue to live your life down you're bumping around trying to you know get by and And you know covet and be greedy and think for yourself think fearful not sharing But really ultimately everything in this world is gonna pass away. There's nothing you can take with you I interviewed Betty miles one time she was Long story short. She died and went to heaven She was gone for about 27 minutes and when she came back she said among other things the beauty of heaven and the flowers and the grass and the vitality and She also said she says I don't care what you have to go through to get there to get to heaven It is worth it. And then she said there's nothing you can take to heaven except people

24:47 That's the only thing you can bring with you And so that's a good thing because we love our loved ones and we of course want her people in heaven And so it's very about very important that we share with them Because he says in verse chapter 6 verse 2 He says for he says Today in an acceptable time I've heard you and in the day of salvation I have helped you behold now is the accepted time behold now is the day of salvation So we have to recognize there is a moment where you have to turn around You can't be going the wrong direction the whole time and get to the right destination Repentance means to turn around it may be a brief moment of saying, you know what you're right. I'm wrong God forgive me. It doesn't have to be a you know, but it is a repentance It is a turning around is a recognizing and it is submitting to the revelation of the truth of Jesus Christ as opposed to what?

25:40 you thought you were, you know following and so for your sake turn around if you haven't already and Get get going in the right direction to get to heaven yeah, and There's a hope and the thing is to is those that have are in faith in Jesus Christ genuine faith in Jesus Christ When they pass away, it's absent from the body to be present with the Lord and and then There's a whole new dimension right that we have coming. It's not a new revelation in the new earth revelation 21 This is something that we really long for and so we need to be living for eternity living for Outliving our life, right?

26:27 Living our life and realizing that people there's two destinations There's the new heavens in the new earth or there's the lake of fire and Well, let's read it 21 can I start with 19 and then you can go to 21? Okay, because 19 talks about something very special that's going to happen in heaven and that's called the marriage supper of the Lamb and so he's talking about in the beginning of 19 the voice the great multitude the destruction of Judgment that he's bringing upon the harlot who is by the way the harlot that has corrupted the whole earth with their fornication and he has avenged her on the blood of His saints shed by her. So the harlot is this world system is Babylon as we would probably call it It is the world system that rebels against defies denies hates God that has corrupted the earth with her fornication with her interactions with her commerce with her greed with her money with her deals that she Makes with people to destroy them again. He's they said hallelujah and her smoke arises up forever and ever So this this spirit of destruction that it is really the the king of the world system Yeah is going to be destroyed and they and there was rejoicing the voice Came from the throne saying praise our God to all you his servants and those who fear him most long wait so there is there's a time of reckoning for this wicked system and if you're part of the system and you think that you're gonna Be saved you are already deceived and lost and then I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty

Let us be glad and rejoice and give him glory for the marriage supper Marriage of the lamb has come and his wife has made herself ready for the marriage of the lamb has come and his wife has Made herself ready. This is flashing back to the parable that Jesus would tell him so of the marriage the invitations went out the people were too busy one had bought a piece of land one had got a New oxen and one had married a wife they made excuses they did not come They and then other there's several parables about the marriage supper and many were invited They didn't come so then they went to the highways and hedges and compelled them to come in the last week first the first last Last but in this lovely moment we see there is a marriage a wedding And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen That would be his wife clean and bright for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the Saints again We're talking about the goodness the kindness the love the acts of love then he said to me, right?

29:10 This is ready to John is being the one told to do this, right? Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the lamb and he said to me those who those These are the true sayings of God and I fell at his feet and worshiped him but he said see that you do not do that for I'm your fellow servant, but so we see that there is a Time coming and then I saw he says verse 11 The heavens open and behold a white horse and now so this marriage supper of the lamb Seems to precede this next part where he says I saw the heavens open Okay, the heaven where God dwells the third heaven, you know, there's the second heaven with the demons And I mean the fallen angels dwelling and there's the first time where we hang out then I heard heaven I saw heaven open and behold a white horse and you sat on him was called faithful and true and in righteousness He judges and makes war his eyes were like a flame of fire and on his head were many crowns He had named a name written on that. No one knew except himself and he was clothed with a robe dipped in blood and And his name is called the Word of God that blood could be there his blood or the blood of many that were Slain for his sake and the armies in heaven clothed in fine linen clip from heaven heaven as an army clothed in fine linen white and clean followed him on white horses and out of his mouth goes a sharp sword and That with it he should strike the nations and he himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He himself

30:45 Tread the winepress of the fierceness the wrath of Almighty God and on his robe There was a name written King of Kings and Lord of Lords. So we see there's activity in heaven there's a marriage supper the lamb people have been invited Jesus talked about it when he was here and then after that he Jesus and his Servants is are coming back to the earth Riding on white horses with Jesus leading them in the triumph and the new heaven and the earth is going to be a busy place You're not going to just be floating around on a cloud learning how to play your harp. Exactly. Nothing like that But let's close with this today, honey Revelation 21 Beginning with verse 1 now I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away Also, there was no more sea than I John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem Coming down of out of heaven from God prepared as a bride adorned for her husband This is the true church right here and I heard a loud voice from heaven saying behold the tabernacle of God is with men and He will dwell with them and they shall be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God and God will Wipe away every tear from their eyes There shall be no more death nor sorrow no crying There shall be no more pain for the former things have passed away Then he who sat on the throne said behold

32:15 I make all things new and he said to me right for these These words are true and faithful and he said to me it is done I am the Alpha and the Omega the beginning in the end I will give of the fountain of water of life freely to him who thirsts He who overcomes shall inherit all things and I will be his God and he shall be my son But the cowardly unbelieving abominable murder sexually immoral sorcerers Idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone Which is the second death? So in other words, you can't really talk about heaven without talking about fire and brimstone and hell But the thing is to wiping away the tears wiping and making all things new This is what we're looking forward to Peter says that all the the elements the very elements are going to be dissolved melt with a fervent heat The whole the whole universe as it is as marvelous as it is It's been defiled by sin and demonic Satanic influence God says I'm just going to replace this Something, you know, sometimes you have an item that it really can't be fixed It just needs to be thrown out and replaced and that's what God is going to do with the whole universe There's going to be a new heavens and a new earth in which righteous and there's a lot of things we don't understand about it But just two more verses

33:46 He said come I will show you the bride the Lamb's wife And he carried me away in the spirit to the great mountain showed me the great city the Holy Jerusalem Descending out of heaven from God having the glory of God and her light was like the most precious stone like Jasper clear as crystal And so we see that this is a new city a city who has foundations of gems and beautiful stones So there's this is heaven We're going there. You can come all you have to do is say yes to Jesus Christ I believe you died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead I believe you're coming again, and this is not that hard And so then at that point after you've declared that then let the Holy Spirit live the life of God and Christ through you By caught by and you follow him by obeying so father We ask you for the revelation of Jesus Christ today to not only encourage those who are following you definitely deeply solidifying their commitment in Encouraging them and energizing them anointing them inspiring them to equipping them to go forward with great joy Because that is our strength But also those who don't know you yet Call them in bring them in wake them up so that they will not be lost father God in Jesus name Amen.
