0:41 So we can rest in the faithfulness that this is already done. And we thank you, Jesus, that your will be done on earth, in and through us, even as it's being done and declared in heaven. And we look for the day when we can rejoice together with you for its completion. And in the meantime, Lord God, we thank you that Jesus Christ. Our Savior, your Son, came down to deliver us, rescue us from this wicked world, this snake pit, Lord, by giving us eternal salvation, dying in our place. Thank you, Jesus, for doing that, Lord. Thank you for being courageous and not being afraid. And thank you for giving us power over all the power of the enemy, that nothing shall by any means hurt us, Lord God, and that we would use that authority and that power, Lord God, to do what you've called us to do, to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons, and preach the gospel.

1:27 And I thank you, Lord Jesus, too, that we take authority over the strong man, the familiar spirits that would torment the people who are listening today, those that would have held them hostage in their lives, and wrap them up in bondages, whether it's in relationships or circumstances, Father, that you'd release your people into the fullness of freedom and joy and the knowing of the love of God. We thank you also for the divine promise that no weapon formed against us will prosper, that no practices of witchcraft, no spells, sorceries, incantations, no words sent against us will prevail. Lord God, we break every argument and every word that's been sent against us and lead us not into temptation. Cover those words with the blood of Jesus. Help us to forgive our enemies, Lord God, and help us to love, even love them.

2:12 And that you'll guide us now in this time together, Father, as we speak about the fear of the Lord. Amen. Amen. Well, Ecclesiastes chapter 12. Verse 13, it says, well, we'll read 13 and 14. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether it is good or whether it is evil. So Solomon, the human author of this book of Ecclesiastes. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, after 12 chapters, he said, Okay, he talks about the vanity of life and all the ebbs and flows of life, the righteous and the wicked and so forth.

3:00 And he says, finally, he says, all that really matters is to fear God and keep his commandments. But unfortunately, Marjorie, the fear of the Lord is something that is not talked about very much these days. And it's basically non-existent even in the lives of many believers. Well, I think he says it's the conclusion of all things, and we're in the middle of the process, and I don't think we've read and understood that all of what we go through is for the very purpose of creating in us that healthy reverence for God. And so it's like the fear of what's happened. Why are there so many obstacles, or why is the fear of the Lord so non-existent in our world today?

3:48 Well, let's talk about the fear of the Lord. What is the fear of the Lord? It's a foreign concept. It sounds so negative when people start talking about, are we supposed to be afraid of God? And eek, oh, here comes God. I want to run away from God. That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about a holy reverence for God. Respect. For who he is as creator of the universe, as sustainer of the universe, as holy, as just, as righteous, and everything like that. That he is God. He's greater. He's over everything. Overrides everything. But basically, it's a reverence for him. It's a respect for him.

4:29 It's an awe of him. And out of that comes obedience to him. Out of that comes loving what he loves, hating what he hates. Becoming more like God. And we're realizing, too, with the fear of the Lord, that we are accountable to him. So we're not just sitting out here and doing our deal, and there's no accountability. We are, all of us, every believer, Paul says, are going to stand before the judgment seat of God. So I think people wonder, well, what is this in my life? What does this mean, fear of the Lord? I have enough trouble just putting bread on the table. You know, what's this? This is so spiritually, you know, above me. But really, this is very basic.

5:09 It's absolutely the fiber of our being. But the fear of the Lord, really, what it does, and we can look at some of the scriptures and where it operated in the Word, it begins to clean off the corruption, the corrosion of sin in our relationships. When something's corroded, corrupted, it doesn't conduct clearly the signals, the electricity, the power, whatever it's supposed to conduct. And I think that's what happens when we don't have the fear of the Lord. The conduction, the relationship, the connections between us and God, God's blessings, healing, power, and things is weakened, if not indeed broken.

5:50 You know, I think people have lost the fear of the Lord because we don't recognize what's happening to us down here in the snake pit, that we have been seduced, we've been enchanted, we've been enhanced. We live under the programming of the God of this world and do not even consider the will of the Lord. It's just like a kind of a foreign concept because it's all about you and what you want and follow your heart and do your thing and take control of your life and all these kinds of things that just talked to us about. It's up to me to do and be what I want to be. Yeah, and sometimes too, you know, we've had people that deny the existence of God or they make him, you know, just like, just all he is is human.

6:32 He's just like us. Or like other gods. Yeah, like other gods. Or we've denied the existence of God. Proverbs 14, I'm sorry, Psalm 14, verse 1 says that the fool has said in his heart, there is no God. And another thing, too, is that we misinterpret the nature and character of God, that he's a holy God. We make him like us. We kind of fashion him in our own image. Rather than allowing God to fashion us in his image. Yeah, right. So this is the backwards process the devil is trying to get us to make us be like gods, think that we're gods. Yeah. Ecclesiastes chapter 8, verse 11, because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily.

7:21 We don't just get knocked out and judged for it right away. Therefore, the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. And then verse 12 says, though a sinner does evil a hundred times and his days are prolonged, yet, I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before him. So some people think, well, you know, I got by with it this time, so no big deal. I can just keep going on with my behavior. Well, you know, the story of Ananias and Sapphira in the Bible, I think it's chapter 5 of Acts. There was a shocking intervention when they lied to God about the property that they had sold, and they lied to Peter, and they dropped down dead.

8:06 And, you know, but that didn't and doesn't happen now. And I was wondering, why doesn't that still happen? Well, it doesn't really— If all the liars in the church would not get knocked down dead, we wouldn't have a church. No, that's not what I was thinking. I was thinking that, you know, if God threatened every time we did something wrong and he just was instant in his judgment. The revelation of love and relationship of love for him would not happen because we would be serving him out of fear and terror. And so that's why he's really allowed us to exercise our free will. But there is a problem when people get by with stuff, when injustice prevails, like it is nowadays. Well, maybe not so much right this minute, but when evil has prevailed and rules, and no one suffers the consequence from evil actions, killing other people with their greed and their covetousness. People get by with it. Yeah.

8:56 As it seems. That kind of destroys the fear of the Lord because we always think of the Lord as bringing justice or judgment. And when we don't see that happening, we think, oh, well, you know, he's not paying any attention today or he's not looking. Right. And we get by with this. If I have enough money and I have the right position and I have the right lawyer, I'm going to get off scot-free. Except for the time comes when every one of us are going to give ourselves to God. They do not think of the day of reckoning. They don't understand there's a day of reckoning and that there are eternal consequences for every action. And many people, they just make their choices based on the path of least resistance, popular persuasions, easy something, quick fix, shortcuts to God, and all kinds of things.

9:43 And so they don't really, it's not a, you know, they don't consider their life very important. It's just get through it, get by, whatever you can. And, you know, what's the point of that when God's whole purpose is to refine and define us and make us in the image of Jesus Christ, His Son, and create in us mighty warriors, sons and daughters? So, you know, people see their lives as just something I have to get through. I have to get through it. But when you're getting through it and you get to the end of it, what do you got? What were you planning on receiving? I mean, we need to know the end from the beginning and that there are consequences to disobedience and unbelief. Choices that we make, they do not consider the long-term effects or the far-reaching effects of what their decisions are.

10:24 And this makes people very, very naive, vulnerable to the seductive and very insidious and deceptive and diabolical plots and plans of the enemy. So what happens is oftentimes we get caught up in our idols. Now, an idol is not a statue of wood or stone or metal that you bow down to. It is in many places. But it's just something that anything in your heart that you place above the Lord in your affections, in your thoughts, and it can be your job, it can be your money, it can be another person, it can be even your pets, you know, all that sort of thing.

11:05 And this takes us away from the fear of God because we become under, we become mesmerized. we become under the spell of our idolatry. And we don't even realize it's idolatry. You know, that's an issue there. I think that's the big problem is the fear of the Lord comes from, the lack of fear of the Lord comes from idolatry. Because in idolatry, worshiping other things, putting fear in front of God, you know, you're going to try to take care of yourself and manage your life and manipulate things so that you'll be okay, rather than knowing that the Lord God is God and we worship Him and He is so unfaithful and committed to keeping us.

11:46 When we put ourselves in that position of, it's up to me, that's called witchcraft, by the way, we have made ourselves our gods, or we've made other people's opinions our gods. So we have really, really got all screwed up. We've lost our way, which was a simple path. Just have no other gods before me, worship me, follow me, obey me, because if you don't obey God, it's not like he's demanding that we obey him, because he's a killjoy and a control freak. He is actually looking out for our best interest because he knows the rule that if you yield yourself, servant, to obey the devil by disobeying God, you're obeying the devil, then you become the devil's servant and slave. And so therefore, this is a very straightforward, either or, in or out, God or the devil kind of deal.

12:32 But the devil has made his deal to look like me instead of him. I don't think of myself as serving the devil and making choices to serve the devil right away. in the beginning, I am looking out for myself. And I'm thinking, I don't believe God. God isn't interested. He's disinterested. He's distant. And another thing, because we don't understand the other part of this snake pit paradigm is that we are here. This is a place of conflict and a place of difficulty, a place of a cauldron, and we're being refined. And it's not fun to be in that place of refinement. And we think, I've got to just survive somehow, keep myself safe, not realizing that it is God who is faithful and who is responsible to keep us in the midst of these fiery trials.

13:19 And so we judge God by saying, well, where was he? You know, he wasn't there. You know, and we're more mad at God than we are fearful of God or respecting God. If we respected and reverenced the Lord, we would begin to believe God's got this. I'm still fine. He is, he gets the last vote. He's for me. I'm for him. I vote for him. I trust in him. I follow him. I obey him. And the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And so we really do need God's wisdom when we walk through this valley, which is conflicted and full of counterfeits and deception and every terrible thing, whether it's a trauma, a tragedy, or a calamity.

14:00 Many people are just swallowed up with these things, and they are terrified. And yet they don't go back to saying, God, have mercy upon me. You are my Father. You're my Creator. You're the faithful one. I need you to get me out of this mess. No, they try some other way to get out of the mess, and it makes it worse. So a lot of it has to do with our worldview. You know, some people say that the world is supposed to be just for fun. Or they want it to be that way anyway. They want it to be fun, or it's a torture chamber. Or we're abandoned down here. Or it's just, it is what it is. Or survival, you know. Survival. So this is the thing, too. is our worldview, our short-sighted vision of what life is about, and even who God is, it's like we've got blinders.

14:55 You know, on the horses, they'd put blinders on the sides of them so they wouldn't be distracted by the other things. But what happened, we focus so much on our life, our problems, what's going on, our experiences, all that stuff. Instead of God. All that is part of what's going on here. But we don't have the perspective that God is working in the midst of all this, and that we have to look beyond the circumstances in which we find ourselves, our experiences of living. We have to look beyond that to see the greatness of God.

15:37 And we see that greatness of God. Well, through creation. Yeah, through creation. Through the creation. But we don't see it enough. We don't see it enough. We don't see the big acts of God come swooping down and saving people and fixing things. I mean, God is very diligent and He's very persistent and He's very aware of everything that's going on down here. But God is also very aware of our free will. He is not trying to interfere with or coerce us or intimidate us or bribe us or bully us like the devil does into choosing him because God doesn't want to be loved because we're afraid of him. God wants to be loved because we love him, because we're responding back to his love for us.

16:23 He first loved us, and we're responding back to that love by loving him. This is a tall order Because when the world is all set up on fear and selfishness and survival, you're surviving and not thriving with the Lord God. You can actually live in this mess with joy and peace and not just survive, but actually do what God said to do. Thrive. He even says, I can leap over a wall. I can run through a troop. We can preach the gospel. And people don't, for the most part, you know, the despair, the depression, the defeat. And also, you know, we're crushed, suffocated under the weight of the wickedness because we're not made to live in this place. This is not our home.

17:05 This is not the Garden of Eden. This is not paradise. This is not heaven. This is what paradise became when sin and Satan entered the world. And so we have to realize we're here, but we're called by God, appointed by God, created by God, chosen by God to be placed here, not to be destroyed, but to prevail. And the only way you're going to get to that place is to fear the Lord more than you fear fear. Many people are afraid, you know, they're afraid of losing, they're afraid of man, they're afraid of failing, they're afraid of the future, they're afraid of making a mistake, they're afraid of being left out, they're afraid of being rejected or alone or unloved.

17:47 And so we live under the control of fear because we do not live under the fear of the Lord. Exactly. And so, I mean, we can, because what does fear say? Fear says something bad is going to happen. You know, that creates anxiety, that creates stress in the body. Then the body gets sick because it can't handle the stress because we're putting so much pressure on your body to protect you from things it wasn't built to protect you from. And so, you know, yes, it can protect us from some things, like maybe a few germs and antigens and things like that, but the body is not built to keep us from, you know. Insults and attacks and rejection and witchcraft and divorce.

18:28 You know, you put that pressure on your body or injustices. I think the biggest. Biggest bitterness that comes between people and God is when God just lets things go. He just lets people get by with stuff. And we know, you know, we're created by God. And the two things that God hates really are sin and injustice. And, you know, really, we are built the same. We are built by God to love what He loves and hate what He hates. And we, when we sin, we feel guilty. And the funny thing is, nobody ever sat you down and told you to feel guilty. Some people might have scolded you and made you feel really bad for sinning, but feeling guilty for sinning, even when there's no one there to scold you, you're doing it in secret.

19:11 There's still that fear on that feeling of guilt because we're doing something that's at cross purposes to our true identity. And the same with injustice. When things aren't fair, we get mad. God does too. And so when God is letting these things go and we are crying out, praying out, you know, whatever we do to freak out to try to get God to listen to us instead of just be and abide and know that God's got this. We get all stretched out and bent out of shape trying to get God to do something. And I think this becomes then another breakdown in our relationship with God because the fear of the Lord would say God is faithful.

19:52 He is the one who began this. He says we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works. And if you look closely at that scripture, it's in Ephesians chapter 2, We are created by God as his workmanship, as an expression of him. He's created us as his children, and he said we are his workmanship. Now, that doesn't mean he's going to force us to do what he wants us to do, but it means that he is faithful to help us get to where he wants us to be if we're willing to let him and follow him. So he says. For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

20:33 So God is the one who did this ahead of time. It's already been done since the foundation of the world. You've been created to walk in these good works that God has prepared for you to walk in. But most of us are not walking in the works God has prepared us to walk in, that he is actually doing through us, that we should walk in them. We're pretty much bound up and entangled in trying to do our own works and get out of our own traps and make things fair and just in our own world and getting mad. And it's just such a serious mess because we have lost our way because of the simple thing of going back to putting God in the right place, in his rightful place as the faithful one, as the one who's begun and will finish this work, as the one who loves us, as the one who's going to lead us through.

21:15 And that comes through fear of the Lord, recognizing, respecting, reverencing him, not because he can kill us instantly, but because he's not killing us instantly because he's keeping us alive, allowing us to exercise our free will to the point where he keeps drawing us, drawing us, working and wooing with us to work us, to draw us into the fullness of his love for us. And some people get it and some people miss it. And this is the tragedy of many people's lives. The Bible says that God is working in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure. He says, you know, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling Because— For it is God who works in you. So we have both.

22:00 He's working in us in the midst of all the things that seem to be very blah, very hard, very vicious, very disturbing, tragic, undesirable, all that stuff. There is a destiny. There is a process that he is working. There's a purpose in the process, right? And a lot of times we get faked out by the process. We think, oh, man, if things should be easier, or why was this so hard? How come this happened? And all that stuff. But there is a process. He says, it's God, Philippians 2, 13, it is God who works in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

22:48 So he says he's giving us the willingness and the ability to do what he wants us to do. In other words, he never sets us up in any situation where there's a predetermined failure that's going to happen to us. You know, we do not have to fail in any situation. I don't care where you're at right now, how tangled up and messed up, and whether it's in your marriage or in your corporation or in your relationship with your children or your grandchildren or your loved ones. God never sets us up to fail. But here's the deal. Satan does. And so Satan keeps going after God saying, let me test him. Let me test him. Let me test Peter. Let me test Job. I'll prove to you, God, that they won't be able to make it, that they won't be able to figure it out.

23:34 Let me prove to them that you are not faithful to keep them. So the whole contest that you're going through is Satan's challenging God in God's ability to faithfulness to keep us in our trials. And what we have to do in the midst of the trial is really hold on to the fear of the Lord. And remember that God is faithful to complete the work he has begun in us. God is faithful. You know, it doesn't say you need to be responsible. You know, that word responsibility is really technically not even in the Bible. When Paul even said in Romans chapter 7, he says, if I'm doing what I do not want to do, it's not me doing it. It is the sin that dwells within me. The Bible doesn't respond to that statement by saying, Paul, you need to be responsible, take responsibility for what's going on in your life.

24:18 There's no follow-up like that. The Bible just says, Paul just says, oh, wretched man that I am who will deliver me. So he's really going back to the fear of the Lord and saying, God, I can't do this. There's stuff going on in me that's not me, that's an entity, a craving, evil passion, or whatever you want to call it, that's causing me to continually opt out of the fear of the Lord. So when you would fear the Lord, Like, for example, in the story of Joseph in the Bible, where he was tempted by Potiphar's wife to throw everything away by just being seduced, allowing himself to go into her chambers. And even when she grabbed his coat, he said, I can't do this. How can I sin against the Lord?

24:58 That was his motivation. Yeah. He says, you know, he could think. He said, how could I do this? He could say, well, look it, you got some moments of pleasure here. But he had a fear of God that was greater than his natural human desire as a young man. He overcame that temptation because of the fear of the Lord. He says, how could I do this great evil and sin against God? There you go. How many times do we worry about? We worry about a lot of things. But how do we? Maybe worry isn't the right word. They would consider, listen, God would be displeased with this. Yeah. I don't think we give it a thought.

25:42 We don't really give it a thought. But going back to Joseph for just a second, I want to just say how important this little moment was in his life where he was tempted. It was just a big temptation for a little moment, but he ran from her and he said no. But he ended up then in prison because she blamed Potiphar. She told him. She said she made a false accusation. He practiced witchcraft against him by making this false accusation. Joseph ended up in prison for a long time, and he's 17 to 25 years old, not even. And he's in this prison for a long time. And the shackles hurt his ankles, and he was there. I mean, he did well there. I mean, he kind of moved to the top, and they gave him lots of jobs to do that he was good at.

26:23 And finally, what got him out of prison, though, was the Lord himself, because he was able to interpret dreams. But the thing is, and then that ended up getting him into Pharaoh's house, And that ended up getting up into the second-in-command after he was in prison. So the tiny thing, if he would have not— Blown it in that little moment. He would have never been able, never, never been able to be positioned as the second-in-command in Egypt. And God worked through him to save the nation of Israel, his family. And to save the nation of Egypt. Yeah. So the thing is, what you think is a little thing and a no big deal and nobody's going to see and it's just one more time and one more drink and one more look and one more this and one more.

27:07 That is your Joseph moment. Come on. Because, you know, so many people nowadays say, oh, I can just do one, I can do one more hit. I can do one more, I can do one more, you know, drug. I can do one more whatever. And that becomes the fentanyl death. They die. And so I'm not just trying to scare people. Not everybody's going to be dying through fentanyl because a lot of people don't do fentanyl, but you don't realize the extreme consequences of a tiny, tiny, what looks like a tiny insignificant decision, and it becomes, my God, it becomes the turning point for the rest of your life. You may go down the wrong road for 80 years by you making a wrong decision, but at any point on the road, there's another part to this rule whom we yield ourselves, servant to obey, that spiritual rule of obedience.

27:52 That's the one who's slave we become. There's also another part to that rule that we have a free will and we can change our mind at any time. At any time, you can change your mind and go back to God at any moment. God is there to give you the courage to repent so that you can go back to the fear of the Lord. He's giving you the courage to believe, believe that God is good and God is for you. God's not who everybody else makes him out to be. God is not an option down here in this planet, this naked. God is the solution to the problem. And Jesus Christ, his son, bought us the tickets of redemption and salvation. And he said, whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.

28:36 That's how you get saved, calling upon the name of the Lord. And basically, the fear of the Lord comes as a revelation. And sometimes, fear of the Lord sometimes just kind of comes upon a person. Like when we mentioned earlier about Ananias and Sapphira, They were struck dead because they lied to the Holy Spirit. People realized, oh, the fear of the Lord came upon people. And it's like God is not putting up with lying in this situation here. And another thing, too, is like when Saul of Tarsus, on the road to Damascus going out to imprison and kill Christians, The Lord Jesus himself appeared to him. Basically, Saul, who became Paul, was struck down.

29:20 The fear of the Lord came upon him. And the fear of the Lord is something that can just actually come upon you. It comes upon you like, oh, I have a great respect for God. And the fear of the Lord, too, it grows. It's something that the more we get to be aware of God, his true nature, who he is, what he does, his care for us, and our accountability to him, that there's an increase in that revelation of this fear of the Lord. But I think sometimes our idea of the fear of the Lord is that kind of Ananias and Sapphira's sudden intervention of God.

30:02 And because many people don't have that, never have had that, haven't heard the voice of the Lord, haven't seen a miracle, you know, maybe they prayed and didn't get a miracle, but so their experience of the fear of the Lord and His power is very limited or non-existent, and so they don't have any, you know, reverence or fear. It's not as dramatic. Right. So they're just more swept away with every day, every day. And so they don't, you know, seek that. But I really believe fearing the Lord and the fear of the Lord, it's another thing that you can ask for. You know, Jesus said, ask and you shall receive, seek and you'll find, knock and it will be open to you.

30:45 And he says, greater works than these shall you do, because they go to my Father. And he says, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, be cast into the sea, and this mulberry bush be cast into the sea. So these kinds of dramatic answers to prayer, we don't see them enough to create a real fear of the Lord. I think people want to see it. I think when you see a sudden, unexplainable miracle that cannot be explained through circumstances or coincidences, it just, you know, his hand just grew out or his eye just opened up or his, you know, he can walk and he couldn't walk. And it's been a long time. Jesus was doing miracles like that all the time, healing the blind man born blind and healing people 28 years at the Pool of Bethesda and, you know, just instant, powerful, power-packed miracles. and I really believe.

31:37 At some point, you know, he had to do that to break into the ho-hum, the, I don't know, the doldrums of death. And on the planet, he came in as the one who had the power to do these things. And he has given us that power, but that power will not happen in your life without the fear of the Lord. If you don't, you can't play with this kind of power and even expect to use it or wield it or have it working in your life. if you don't have a true fear of the Lord. Satan does have a lookalike power. He's got a counterfeit calling, you know, fire from heaven and things like that.

32:17 He can do that, and Jesus said he will do that. Lying signs and wonders, he will do them, especially in the last days. To deceive, if possible, even the very elect, but most of all, already deceive those who are already confused and conflicted and drawn into the world's system and the snake pit. But, you know, really what you want to do for your life is cry out to God for basics here. Before we can do miracles and, you know, pull these people out of death's destruction and grow out limbs and blind eyes, we have got to have a reverence, a total fear of the Lord like Jesus had for the Father.

32:57 It's a respect. It's a knowing that God can do this, and God probably wants to do this, and there's something in the way. And I might be the very thing in the way because I don't have that true fear of the Lord. So I would say, number one on your list this week, B, seek God for fear of the Lord, and ask Him what that means in your life and circumstances. And we can pray as it was prayed in Psalm 33, let all the earth fear the Lord. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. Wow, that's a pretty big prayer, right? This is something one of these days. The knowledge of the Lord is going to cover the earth as the waters cover the sea.

33:44 And then for those of us who are believers, he said in 2 Corinthians 6 and last part of verse 16, I will dwell in them and walk in them. I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And verse 17, come out from among them. And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. And then chapter 7, verse 1.
