"Ancient Prophecies Fulfilled" Rescue Radio with Marjorie Cole

The details surrounding the events of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and His resurrection, the timing, and the fulfillment of ancient prophecies converged in this critical, most central point in all of human history.
Jesus’ death served as the ultimate atonement for humanity's sins and the pivotal moment of history it represents. We reflect on the powerful symbolism of the torn temple veil. We could now enter into the Holy of Holies without the oversight of a priest.
All creation responded to what had just happened. The sun turned to darkness, the rocks split, the earth quaked, and the wind and the rain loosed their fury. Even the saints resting in their graves were resurrected and seen by many.
Jesus' journey to redeem humankind continues even into the afterlife, where he preached to the spirits in prison, securing victory over sin and death for all believers, even those who had died before the Cross had happened. Amazing!!!

00:00:00.017 --> 00:00:03.897
Yes, Father God, we thank you for your mercy. What is your location?
00:00:04.177 --> 00:00:07.897
That your will be done, O God, on earth. That it is for us this day, Lord.
00:00:07.977 --> 00:00:10.057
Help us to recognize this is
00:00:10.057 --> 00:00:13.357
a battle, this is a battle, and bring you all the way up in the formation.
00:00:14.177 --> 00:00:16.837
And my words, not your own, you mean, not your own, but your own,
00:00:16.837 --> 00:00:18.217
but your own, and your own, and your own.
00:00:17.360 --> 00:00:24.560
Music.
00:00:18.637 --> 00:00:23.677
Just look at the way things look, and as look to you, and as we see you in the
00:00:23.677 --> 00:00:28.437
room, so this is even in this time as we meditate on the crucifixion and the resurrection,
00:00:28.757 --> 00:00:32.777
that we will recognize that this is a plan that was going since the garden,
00:00:32.817 --> 00:00:37.417
and that we are in the middle of being the witnesses to what you've done.
00:00:37.577 --> 00:00:41.537
And thank you, Jesus, for dying on the cross, for exchanging your life for ours,
00:00:41.617 --> 00:00:43.357
your blood for ours, your salvation.
00:00:43.917 --> 00:00:48.977
You became the sacrificed lamb, the final lamb, the one that was able to pay
00:00:48.977 --> 00:00:54.357
the penalty in full for the debt that we owed, Father God, the debt that sin
00:00:54.357 --> 00:00:58.277
demanded of us. And I thank you, Lord, for giving us power over all the power of the enemy.
00:00:58.417 --> 00:01:01.837
I thank you for each one who's listening. I pray that you'd gather their hearts
00:01:01.837 --> 00:01:05.197
together to understand your will for their lives, that you give them eyes to
00:01:05.197 --> 00:01:09.617
see, ears to hear, a heart to receive that revelation and be encouraged today.
00:01:09.957 --> 00:01:14.497
Lord God, we know how the enemy works about us to try to discourage and empty
00:01:14.497 --> 00:01:17.057
out and just drain out the joy of the Lord.
00:01:17.177 --> 00:01:20.517
So let us be filled up again with your faithfulness, your presence,
00:01:20.617 --> 00:01:25.317
your goodness. There's nothing like you, Lord God, to refresh and replenish your people.
00:01:25.457 --> 00:01:28.537
And I thank you. We bind the powers of darkness that would come against us,
00:01:28.657 --> 00:01:32.657
against this radio show, against our work today, against anything that we would
00:01:32.657 --> 00:01:39.157
be commissioned by you to do, that your will be done and us be counted as faithful servants.
00:01:39.377 --> 00:01:42.977
I bind the strong men, the familiar spirits, all those that would hold assignment.
00:01:43.317 --> 00:01:47.517
No weapon formed against us will prosper. We declare your victory in Jesus' name. Amen.
00:01:48.537 --> 00:01:52.977
Amen. Well, the cross of Jesus Christ is the greatest victory ever.
00:01:53.257 --> 00:01:56.877
It's really the centerpiece of human history. Yeah, well.
00:01:56.997 --> 00:02:01.517
Because, you know, you mentioned about since the garden, God is planned.
00:02:01.637 --> 00:02:07.697
But we read about Jesus that he was the lamb slain since the foundation of the world.
00:02:07.857 --> 00:02:09.637
From the foundation of the world.
00:02:09.757 --> 00:02:14.377
So actually before the foundation of the world, this is mind-blowing.
00:02:14.377 --> 00:02:19.977
Before Genesis, way before, we could say, way back in eternity,
00:02:19.997 --> 00:02:24.477
which is the only way we can describe it, because we don't understand eternity.
00:02:24.757 --> 00:02:29.517
It's past, present, it's future all at once. It never ends.
00:02:30.037 --> 00:02:33.337
But here Jesus came and.
00:02:33.869 --> 00:02:37.169
In the fullness of time, it says. In the fullness of time in Galatians.
00:02:37.269 --> 00:02:39.069
Yeah, it's just the right time.
00:02:39.549 --> 00:02:47.869
So God's timing is just so perfect. It's a plan in eternity that's unfolded in time. Yeah.
00:02:48.229 --> 00:02:52.549
And so from the Genesis, you know, confrontation of the serpent,
00:02:53.129 --> 00:02:56.869
and God said, I will put enmity between your seed and the seed of the woman.
00:02:57.369 --> 00:03:01.509
Obviously, Satan then has seed. He has offspring. He has, you know,
00:03:01.749 --> 00:03:03.529
protege. He has, you know, children.
00:03:03.869 --> 00:03:07.809
As Jesus said in John 8, you're of your father, the devil.
00:03:09.129 --> 00:03:15.569
But the Lord God said that he would put war between the woman and the seed of
00:03:15.569 --> 00:03:19.569
the woman and between the serpent, and that the serpent would crush,
00:03:19.989 --> 00:03:25.789
I mean, would hinder or bruise the heel of the woman's seed, that would be Jesus.
00:03:26.069 --> 00:03:29.909
But Jesus would crush his head. And now this, 4,000 years later,
00:03:30.029 --> 00:03:33.109
is the crushing, is the crushing of the serpent's head.
00:03:33.689 --> 00:03:36.689
And yet many, many people, I'm sure, did not catch that.
00:03:36.869 --> 00:03:40.389
They did not get what was really going on. And that's obvious as we see their
00:03:40.389 --> 00:03:44.729
reactions to the crucifixion and to the events that led up to it and after it.
00:03:45.609 --> 00:03:51.389
It's interesting, verse 45 of Genesis, or not Genesis, Matthew 27.
00:03:52.189 --> 00:03:57.049
Now from the sixth hour until the ninth hour, there was darkness over all the land.
00:03:57.429 --> 00:04:01.489
And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying,
00:04:01.489 --> 00:04:06.829
ila ila lama sabachthani, that is, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
00:04:06.869 --> 00:04:10.229
That's Genesis, not Genesis, why I got Genesis on the brain here today.
00:04:10.249 --> 00:04:11.229
Because I just said Genesis.
00:04:11.469 --> 00:04:14.289
Yeah, you said Genesis, and I picked it up. Well, yeah, it's the connection.
00:04:14.469 --> 00:04:16.849
There's a connection. There's the connection, right.
00:04:17.249 --> 00:04:24.709
Matthew 27, and from the sixth hour, which was about noon, to the ninth hour is about 3 p.m.
00:04:24.969 --> 00:04:29.989
So Jesus is on the cross for about six hours. And it's amazing that he even
00:04:29.989 --> 00:04:34.849
survived the beating and carrying his cross.
00:04:36.039 --> 00:04:40.599
Just amazing. God was sustaining him. He couldn't die from the whipping.
00:04:40.839 --> 00:04:42.819
He had to die on the cross.
00:04:43.499 --> 00:04:48.019
And it's a fulfillment of the prophecy. One of the things that we see,
00:04:48.159 --> 00:04:51.819
it's brilliant, we could say.
00:04:52.839 --> 00:04:56.079
All the way through here, we see prophecies being fulfilled.
00:04:57.199 --> 00:05:01.139
Prophecies that in detail being fulfilled.
00:05:01.619 --> 00:05:04.579
And he says, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
00:05:04.579 --> 00:05:10.419
This is from Psalm 22, verse 1, and I encourage listeners here to check that
00:05:10.419 --> 00:05:18.139
out because so much of what Jesus endured on the cross, it was prophesied, you know,
00:05:18.359 --> 00:05:21.899
way, way back, hundreds and hundreds of years before.
00:05:21.919 --> 00:05:24.179
Many prophecies, actually, about what was going to happen.
00:05:24.359 --> 00:05:30.219
And interesting enough that the Pharisees and scribes, their job was to know the Scripture.
00:05:30.399 --> 00:05:35.059
Their job was to study the prophecies. And so they had read. I didn't see it.
00:05:35.179 --> 00:05:41.079
They had read Psalm 22 and Isaiah 51 or whatever. 53. 53.
00:05:41.839 --> 00:05:49.619
They had read those things, you know, about the betrayal and the price of his
00:05:49.619 --> 00:05:52.919
betrayal, 30 pieces of silver. They had read those things.
00:05:53.119 --> 00:05:56.659
They knew, but it did not seem to connect. Did not connect them.
00:05:56.659 --> 00:05:59.899
So they were completely stupefied or blinded by this whole thing.
00:06:00.579 --> 00:06:05.099
And so therefore they went headlong into the plan that God has set up.
00:06:05.179 --> 00:06:10.119
And it was kind of interesting too, because you find out, you wonder, well, how did Jesus die?
00:06:10.219 --> 00:06:13.359
Who was behind all this? Who instigated this?
00:06:13.839 --> 00:06:18.759
And then you say, you hear verses where Jesus says, well, I laid down my own life.
00:06:19.099 --> 00:06:25.559
And so there's this kind of a willingness to lay down. How did all this happen?
00:06:25.739 --> 00:06:29.819
He says, you don't take my life from me. I lay it down. And so the thing is
00:06:29.819 --> 00:06:34.419
that there was a fulfillment of many prophecies, many prophecies.
00:06:34.699 --> 00:06:39.839
Yeah, many prophecies all the way through from even Jesus when he's coming in
00:06:39.839 --> 00:06:44.299
on the triumphal entry, you know, what we call Palm Sunday.
00:06:44.639 --> 00:06:50.219
You know, this is a prophecy from Zechariah that he was going to come in riding
00:06:50.219 --> 00:06:54.979
on a donkey, not just a donkey, but the foal of a donkey.
00:06:55.499 --> 00:07:01.459
And someone coming in, riding on a donkey, it spoke of someone coming in at peace.
00:07:01.639 --> 00:07:06.199
Now, when Jesus, he was coming, well, yeah, coming, bringing peace.
00:07:06.639 --> 00:07:10.919
But then the victory comes. Jesus is coming, riding on a white horse when he
00:07:10.919 --> 00:07:12.159
returns. Right, the second time.
00:07:12.199 --> 00:07:16.239
So he came to bring, well, he came to bring peace within our hearts,
00:07:16.259 --> 00:07:19.919
but then he came to bring division. He said, too, I didn't come to bring peace.
00:07:20.019 --> 00:07:25.899
I came to bring a sword. So there's going to be division because of him. People are divided.
00:07:26.866 --> 00:07:32.826
They were divided then, they're divided now over who is Jesus and what is the
00:07:32.826 --> 00:07:36.246
significance of the cross. Well, that's the stumbling block. Did it really happen?
00:07:36.386 --> 00:07:39.546
Did it really happen? Some people are speculating, oh, I don't know if it really
00:07:39.546 --> 00:07:41.946
ever happened, you know, and it's so many different views.
00:07:42.346 --> 00:07:45.926
Well, that's all what Satan tries to do. He tries to always bring double-heartedness,
00:07:46.106 --> 00:07:51.226
division, undermine, confuse, rewrite the narrative according to his fables and foolishness.
00:07:51.826 --> 00:07:56.746
And so it's very difficult, you know, and nowadays, too, with people all enamored
00:07:56.746 --> 00:07:59.026
with the Easter bunny and all these other things.
00:07:59.086 --> 00:08:02.746
It's like, it's so degrading. It's so blasphemous. It is.
00:08:02.926 --> 00:08:06.306
To think about Jesus having those nine-inch nails pounded in his hands.
00:08:06.446 --> 00:08:07.586
I mean, we're jumping ahead of ourselves.
00:08:07.986 --> 00:08:11.946
And people are eating chocolate bunnies and celebrating Easter,
00:08:11.946 --> 00:08:16.486
which is a holiday named after Roman gods and pagan gods.
00:08:16.506 --> 00:08:20.106
Pagan gods. But going back to this, I want to make a mention that of the timing
00:08:20.106 --> 00:08:24.546
of this crucifixion is kind of confusing, you know, because their time,
00:08:24.846 --> 00:08:27.986
this all began in the morning,
00:08:28.486 --> 00:08:34.946
early in the morning, according to Roman time, early in the morning would have been 6 to 8 o'clock.
00:08:34.946 --> 00:08:40.046
So in the morning, after they got Jesus, they grabbed him that night in the
00:08:40.046 --> 00:08:44.886
Garden of Gethsemane, and they gathered him up and took him to Caiaphas,
00:08:44.966 --> 00:08:46.666
and they had that conversation,
00:08:47.066 --> 00:08:52.026
and Caiaphas tore his robe, and he was indignant, and Jesus blasphemed because
00:08:52.026 --> 00:08:53.846
he agreed that he was the Son of God.
00:08:54.466 --> 00:08:58.266
And so then they were looking for all these witnesses, and one of the interesting
00:08:58.266 --> 00:09:03.366
things about the charges pressed against Jesus, Finally, they found two witnesses.
00:09:03.566 --> 00:09:11.306
They had to have two, that said that he said, I will destroy the temple and
00:09:11.306 --> 00:09:14.446
rebuild it in three days. Yeah, I will destroy the temple.
00:09:14.686 --> 00:09:17.066
That's not what he said. But that's not what he said. He said- They twisted
00:09:17.066 --> 00:09:20.026
what he said. Yeah, he did, they did. He said to them.
00:09:20.826 --> 00:09:24.246
Destroy this temple and I will rise in three days.
00:09:24.906 --> 00:09:29.766
But they took it all out of context and they made it sound like he was going
00:09:29.766 --> 00:09:34.606
to hurt their precious temple and that he was a blasphemer because he said he was the son of God.
00:09:34.726 --> 00:09:37.806
So that's when they said, okay, that's it. We've got the evidence we need.
00:09:37.986 --> 00:09:39.986
And so this was happening in the
00:09:39.986 --> 00:09:43.426
middle of the night because they got Caiaphas up and he was ready to go.
00:09:44.186 --> 00:09:48.126
But then they had to wait in the morning and they had to get him to pilot.
00:09:48.686 --> 00:09:52.506
So the question is, who was behind this? Well, the scribes and the Pharisees,
00:09:52.626 --> 00:09:56.726
the religious leaders, they were really instigating this because of envy and
00:09:56.726 --> 00:10:00.586
jealousy and because they held him in greatâthey were threatened by him.
00:10:00.646 --> 00:10:03.346
They were afraid he was doing all the things they were supposed to be doing,
00:10:03.346 --> 00:10:07.146
and they weren't doing them, so they could only find fault with him to keep
00:10:07.146 --> 00:10:12.246
their crowd, to keep their people held hostage with the lies and the religious
00:10:12.246 --> 00:10:14.026
demands of their legalism.
00:10:14.026 --> 00:10:19.486
But anyway, so this Caiaphas event happened, yeah, I would say probably four
00:10:19.486 --> 00:10:20.686
or five o'clock in the morning.
00:10:21.106 --> 00:10:24.386
And then they took him to Pilate. So Pilate is talking to him,
00:10:24.486 --> 00:10:28.686
what's the truth? Jesus said, you wouldn't have any power except I give it to you.
00:10:29.246 --> 00:10:32.726
And Jesus is pretty quiet there. He didn't say much. And so the interesting
00:10:32.726 --> 00:10:39.066
thing is that if he would have testified on behalf of himself,
00:10:39.566 --> 00:10:42.686
would have defended himself, they couldn't have crucified him.
00:10:42.686 --> 00:10:46.886
So that's why he didn't say anything, because he knew he needed to be crucified.
00:10:47.046 --> 00:10:51.086
I'm not sure he wanted to be, but he desired to fulfill the will of the Father.
00:10:51.426 --> 00:10:55.286
So he said nothing. And Pilate made note of that. What? You're not saying anything?
00:10:55.626 --> 00:11:01.306
Even what he didn't say was spoken about in Isaiah 53, verse 7.
00:11:01.566 --> 00:11:05.726
He was oppressed and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth.
00:11:05.986 --> 00:11:10.906
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before its shearers is silent.
00:11:10.906 --> 00:11:13.546
So he opened not his mouth.
00:11:13.686 --> 00:11:19.166
Right, so going back to the, yes, all of these prophecies were deliberate details
00:11:19.166 --> 00:11:25.546
that identified, confirmed the actual truth about what's happening at that moment.
00:11:25.706 --> 00:11:29.166
The Sadducees, they were the elite.
00:11:29.406 --> 00:11:37.146
They were the wealthy religious elite, and they only accepted Genesis,
00:11:37.506 --> 00:11:42.506
Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. They did not accept the prophets, you know.
00:11:42.766 --> 00:11:47.186
And Jesus is really spoken of in every book of the Bible.
00:11:48.426 --> 00:11:49.846
But they did not accept.
00:11:50.849 --> 00:11:56.429
Take any stock in the words of the prophets. And also, they didn't believe in
00:11:56.429 --> 00:12:00.629
demons, even though they were possessed with them, most of them.
00:12:01.329 --> 00:12:10.549
And they didn't believe in the resurrection. And so, part of their blindness was their theology.
00:12:10.889 --> 00:12:14.229
Right. And that's today, the same problem today. We have a blindness in our
00:12:14.229 --> 00:12:15.149
theology. Blinded by theology.
00:12:15.349 --> 00:12:17.969
Because we don't believe Christians can have demons. That's a big problem that
00:12:17.969 --> 00:12:19.469
blinds us. But anyway, back to the story.
00:12:19.689 --> 00:12:26.609
So he's in front of Pilate, and the Bible says Mark and Matthew both refer to
00:12:26.609 --> 00:12:29.689
that as being the third hour of the day.
00:12:29.889 --> 00:12:37.889
Now, the third hour of the day in Jewish time, the third hour would be nine o'clock in the morning.
00:12:38.709 --> 00:12:43.009
And so by the time he's done with Pilate, 8 o'clock, he's in between 8 and 9.
00:12:43.169 --> 00:12:47.669
He's getting scourged. He's getting whipped. He's getting mocked. He's getting spit upon.
00:12:47.909 --> 00:12:53.509
I mean, this is the most vile, outrageous, blasphemous.
00:12:53.649 --> 00:12:59.049
He is the most innocent, beautiful, perfect human that ever lived.
00:12:59.169 --> 00:13:02.669
And all we could do was kill him. All we could do is hate him, crucify him.
00:13:02.869 --> 00:13:07.029
And so then he's scourged. They're mocking him. They're putting that robe on
00:13:07.029 --> 00:13:09.269
him. They're reading his hand to represent a scepter.
00:13:09.489 --> 00:13:13.309
They're spitting at him and they're saying, prophesy who struck you,
00:13:13.849 --> 00:13:16.749
putting that crown of that helmet of thorns on his head, more like a helmet.
00:13:17.069 --> 00:13:22.489
And then at that point, so then there's the declaration, crucify,
00:13:22.609 --> 00:13:24.469
crucify. So the mob had been incited.
00:13:24.909 --> 00:13:29.909
Pilate was freaked out. He didn't want to be any part of this. He knew it was a setup.
00:13:30.289 --> 00:13:33.369
And so he washed his hands. And at that point where he washed his hands,
00:13:33.469 --> 00:13:36.149
it says, they said, okay, that's fine.
00:13:36.789 --> 00:13:40.869
His blood be on us and on our children. That's what they were agreeing to.
00:13:41.009 --> 00:13:43.249
That's what Pilate says. The blood be upon you and your children.
00:13:43.329 --> 00:13:44.149
And they said, that's good.
00:13:44.329 --> 00:13:49.449
We'll take it. So even to this day, there's that spiritual curse upon that nation.
00:13:49.769 --> 00:13:53.549
And the people are of that descendant because the descendants of the Jewish
00:13:53.549 --> 00:13:55.389
nation because of this agreement.
00:13:55.509 --> 00:13:58.669
Now, you can take that off you by simply canceling it out in the blood of Jesus.
00:13:58.849 --> 00:14:00.729
But if you don't, it still stands.
00:14:01.389 --> 00:14:05.009
So, okay. So now back to the story. So he's at the ninth hour.
00:14:05.009 --> 00:14:11.329
He is crucified so that means he carries that cross up well the sixth hour it
00:14:11.329 --> 00:14:15.589
would be the sixth no no no the ninth hour the third hour is nine o'clock so
00:14:15.589 --> 00:14:21.609
at nine o'clock he is carrying his cross through the streets and he is crucified at the ninth hour so.
00:14:22.663 --> 00:14:28.083
The ninth hour is still three o'clock, or three, the third hour,
00:14:28.223 --> 00:14:30.403
according to the Jews, is nine o'clock our time.
00:14:30.523 --> 00:14:34.483
Okay, let's put it that way. And so he's there, he's going up to the hill,
00:14:34.703 --> 00:14:39.863
he's fallen down, and they picked up Simon of Cyrene because if Jesus wouldn't
00:14:39.863 --> 00:14:43.423
have made it to the cross, he wouldn't have made it to the hill, to Golgotha,
00:14:43.863 --> 00:14:46.703
then his death would have been, he just died in the streets,
00:14:46.903 --> 00:14:48.143
you know, of blood loss or something.
00:14:48.143 --> 00:14:51.323
Yeah, and he didn't accept any drugs to relieve the pain. But they had to have
00:14:51.323 --> 00:14:53.783
Simon help him because he had to get up to the cross.
00:14:54.043 --> 00:14:58.263
And so several times, even in the garden when he was weakened with the blood
00:14:58.263 --> 00:15:02.603
and the sweat and all that coming out of his pores, an angel had to come to
00:15:02.603 --> 00:15:04.423
strengthen him because Satan was still trying to kill him.
00:15:04.903 --> 00:15:09.803
Satan was trying to kill him before he got to the cross because Satan knew that
00:15:09.803 --> 00:15:12.603
the cross was the pinnacle, the place of the sacrifice.
00:15:12.823 --> 00:15:16.603
And so that would be the atonement for our sins. So if he would just die a common
00:15:16.603 --> 00:15:19.443
death, you know, in the street, you know, under the weight of the cross,
00:15:19.703 --> 00:15:20.643
that wouldn't have counted.
00:15:20.983 --> 00:15:25.943
It had to be the death on the cross. So that's why Simon came along to pick up the cross.
00:15:26.083 --> 00:15:29.123
So now we're walking through the streets. We get up to the top of the hill,
00:15:29.603 --> 00:15:31.363
Golgotha, which is called the Place of the Skull.
00:15:32.323 --> 00:15:36.203
And it says, and they crucified him there. And then they crucified him.
00:15:36.303 --> 00:15:40.083
Four words, four or five words. they use only four or five words to describe
00:15:40.083 --> 00:15:44.223
the whole excruciating experience of Jesus being thrown to the ground,
00:15:44.583 --> 00:15:47.803
nailed to the cross, and stuck up.
00:15:47.923 --> 00:15:50.063
And then, you know, that cross is on the ground when they're laying him there.
00:15:50.163 --> 00:15:53.363
And then they throw it up into the air, into that hole and the sod.
00:15:53.583 --> 00:15:57.683
And all of this pain is said in five words, and they crucified him.
00:15:58.003 --> 00:16:03.643
But this was about the sixth hour. So they got this, he was nine o'clock in the morning.
00:16:03.983 --> 00:16:06.683
And then at the sixth hour, what?
00:16:07.260 --> 00:16:12.260
At the sixth hour until the ninth hour, so from noon until 3 p.m.,
00:16:12.260 --> 00:16:14.200
there was darkness over all the land.
00:16:14.800 --> 00:16:19.280
And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice saying,
00:16:19.480 --> 00:16:23.340
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Now, the ninth hour is 3 o'clock.
00:16:24.240 --> 00:16:27.840
So 3 o'clock is 9 o'clock and 9 o'clock is 3 o'clock. It's kind of weird in
00:16:27.840 --> 00:16:30.900
our way of looking. I hope I'm not confusing you. They count.
00:16:31.260 --> 00:16:36.300
So at noon, but noon is noon. So at noon, 12 o'clock, he's on the cross and
00:16:36.300 --> 00:16:38.760
he's speaking the last words, and he died.
00:16:38.920 --> 00:16:47.940
And when he died, well, actually at noon, the whole earth mourned at the darkness, the sky, the sun,
00:16:48.300 --> 00:16:53.460
the earthquakes, all these things began to, the creation began to recognize
00:16:53.460 --> 00:16:55.300
what was going on here. It's interesting.
00:16:55.640 --> 00:17:01.680
It said, and Jesus cried out with a loud voice in verse 50 of Matthew 27,
00:17:02.320 --> 00:17:06.380
cried out again with a loud voice. Now, he's crying out with a loud voice.
00:17:06.540 --> 00:17:11.760
This is amazing that he had any voice left at all because he's basically like
00:17:11.760 --> 00:17:17.760
a torn up carcass on the cross.
00:17:18.880 --> 00:17:23.760
Don't accept the photos or the paintings of him. He's got a little blood here
00:17:23.760 --> 00:17:24.600
and a little blood there.
00:17:25.180 --> 00:17:27.120
Isaiah said he was marred.
00:17:27.632 --> 00:17:33.852
More than any man. His visage was so marred that he didn't even look human anymore.
00:17:34.112 --> 00:17:37.352
I mean, think of that. Think of that.
00:17:37.752 --> 00:17:40.612
You say, well, I don't want to think of that. Well, you need to think of that
00:17:40.612 --> 00:17:41.972
because that's the way it was.
00:17:42.252 --> 00:17:48.972
And so not these ridiculous depictions of him on the cross. He was just torn.
00:17:49.392 --> 00:17:53.952
He was bruised. He was crushed. He was basically, his body was shredded.
00:17:53.952 --> 00:17:59.212
None of his bones were broken because he's the fulfillment of the Passover lamb,
00:17:59.212 --> 00:18:03.752
and the Passover lamb was consumed, but they couldn't break any of the bones.
00:18:04.612 --> 00:18:09.232
So he's a pattern. Do you see the pattern of all this going through? No bones were broken.
00:18:09.712 --> 00:18:14.332
And so this is another prophecy that's fulfilled. And what happened?
00:18:14.452 --> 00:18:17.432
Here's when he cried out, when he yielded up his spirit.
00:18:17.972 --> 00:18:22.772
Can I read 33 first? Now when the sixth hour had come, as you were saying,
00:18:22.872 --> 00:18:25.612
there's darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.
00:18:25.732 --> 00:18:29.312
So six hours is noon, and the ninth hour would be then three o'clock.
00:18:29.492 --> 00:18:34.992
So for those three hours, there was darkness, blackness, like the blackness of night.
00:18:35.272 --> 00:18:39.432
And at the ninth hour, which is three o'clock, Jesus cried out with a loud voice
00:18:39.432 --> 00:18:43.852
saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabbatani, which is translated, my God,
00:18:43.972 --> 00:18:49.572
my God, why have you forsaken me? So he is at that place of greatâhe's abandoned by God.
00:18:49.692 --> 00:18:53.272
I mean, he's not really abandoned by God, but that's his emotional position.
00:18:53.592 --> 00:19:00.552
He's not feeling the anointing, the presence, the power, the encouragements
00:19:00.552 --> 00:19:03.172
of his father right there. He's feeling alone.
00:19:03.352 --> 00:19:07.932
He's feelingâ All the sins, all the sins of the human race, past,
00:19:08.152 --> 00:19:14.252
present, and future, are laid on him. the judgment for all sin for all time.
00:19:15.290 --> 00:19:18.890
Was laid upon him. And we can't comprehend that.
00:19:19.410 --> 00:19:25.770
We think, oh, the pain, if you study about the crucifixion, how agonizing it was physically,
00:19:26.210 --> 00:19:34.850
just the most brutal, inhumane possible way to torture somebody and to kill
00:19:34.850 --> 00:19:36.690
somebody. And it was long.
00:19:36.910 --> 00:19:40.050
People would be on there for hours and hours.
00:19:41.090 --> 00:19:49.930
But then you think of all the sin, all sin of the human race for all time concentrated on him.
00:19:50.170 --> 00:19:54.610
He became, literally became a sin for us. Yeah, that's right.
00:19:54.690 --> 00:19:56.470
Paul tells the Corinthians.
00:19:56.730 --> 00:20:04.010
Yeah. So he was on that cross from basically nine o'clock in the morning when
00:20:04.010 --> 00:20:06.610
they crucified him until three o'clock.
00:20:06.750 --> 00:20:10.470
For six hours, he was on the cross. And usually it would take people a couple
00:20:10.470 --> 00:20:15.130
of days to die, but because he was so bruised and bloody and beaten up and because
00:20:15.130 --> 00:20:20.330
he released his spirit to the Lord. He released his spirit. He had done it, he finished it.
00:20:20.570 --> 00:20:27.790
He had in that weakness, in that horrible condition, he yielded up his spirit.
00:20:28.010 --> 00:20:31.110
So he was not murdered.
00:20:31.550 --> 00:20:37.850
You know, Acts talks about you were the murderers. Well, it was basically human
00:20:37.850 --> 00:20:42.150
beings under the inspiration of Satan and actually murdered him,
00:20:42.550 --> 00:20:45.190
yet he offered himself. Willingly.
00:20:45.490 --> 00:20:50.270
Willingly as a final sacrifice. And what happened? So he yielded up his spirit.
00:20:50.410 --> 00:20:54.270
They didn't really take it from him. Right. That's what he said. No man takes it from me.
00:20:54.430 --> 00:21:00.710
And it's interesting here in Matthew 27, 51, then, Behold, the veil of the temple
00:21:00.710 --> 00:21:04.030
was torn in two from the top to the bottom.
00:21:04.810 --> 00:21:09.030
And the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened and
00:21:09.030 --> 00:21:11.970
many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised.
00:21:12.130 --> 00:21:16.970
And coming out of the graves after his resurrection, they went into the holy
00:21:16.970 --> 00:21:19.430
city and appeared to many.
00:21:19.630 --> 00:21:25.470
So the veil of the temple, we're told it was about, it was separating the holy place.
00:21:27.990 --> 00:21:31.070
From the holy of holies. Two different rooms.
00:21:31.090 --> 00:21:35.970
And we're told that that was about, the veil was about, it was woven about four
00:21:35.970 --> 00:21:38.770
inches thick You imagine something.
00:21:38.970 --> 00:21:42.830
A curtain that's four inches thick. Like a curtain four inches thick.
00:21:43.130 --> 00:21:45.730
And it just didn't fall down.
00:21:46.090 --> 00:21:50.750
It didn't split from the bottom up. It split from the top down.
00:21:50.990 --> 00:21:56.950
What God was doing is saying, okay, the way now, if in Hebrews we read about that,
00:21:57.475 --> 00:22:03.955
The way into the very presence of God has been made through the death of Jesus Christ.
00:22:04.155 --> 00:22:08.575
And it's interesting, too, you had an earthquake. So you got darkness.
00:22:09.315 --> 00:22:11.815
Villa, temple splitting. You got darkness.
00:22:12.335 --> 00:22:15.755
You've got an earthquake. Rock splitting. You got rocks splitting.
00:22:16.355 --> 00:22:18.735
And you get graves open.
00:22:19.415 --> 00:22:24.235
And this would be, I think, after the resurrection is what it says here. They appeared to many.
00:22:24.455 --> 00:22:28.615
They came out of their grave. Like that, you'd think that would be pretty freaky.
00:22:29.155 --> 00:22:32.695
I mean, all of a sudden somebody comes to your door and it's like, who's this?
00:22:32.875 --> 00:22:40.075
What more could God have shown them, Don, testify to the fact that he is watching.
00:22:40.455 --> 00:22:44.775
He is aware of what's going on. And the temple veil being rent,
00:22:45.235 --> 00:22:48.815
now the Pharisees and the scribes and the Sadducees and all those people had
00:22:48.815 --> 00:22:51.555
no more right to hold the people back.
00:22:51.555 --> 00:22:54.995
Because back in the law, you know, you had to go through the priest to get,
00:22:55.115 --> 00:22:56.775
you know, the offering so you could get to God.
00:22:57.015 --> 00:23:00.775
Now God is saying, nope, done with that. You can come to me directly.
00:23:01.495 --> 00:23:06.135
And so this is why the gospel of grace and good news is such a good thing because
00:23:06.135 --> 00:23:10.255
you and I don't have to wait for a priest or a mediator or a moderator or something
00:23:10.255 --> 00:23:12.035
to get permission to go to Jesus.
00:23:12.175 --> 00:23:14.735
You can do that right now. You can do that any time of the day.
00:23:14.855 --> 00:23:15.955
He's always there, available.
00:23:16.335 --> 00:23:20.735
The court is always open to hear our cry and receive our petitions.
00:23:20.875 --> 00:23:25.335
So, These things, they didn't get this stuff. I don't think they got this, though.
00:23:25.675 --> 00:23:29.695
They were pretty much taken up with the moment. And we are often the same.
00:23:30.135 --> 00:23:33.915
We're taken up with what things look like, what's happening in real time.
00:23:34.275 --> 00:23:37.675
And we're not realizing what's really going on, the scriptural,
00:23:37.795 --> 00:23:41.455
spiritual significance of what we're even going through in our fiery trials.
00:23:41.635 --> 00:23:46.495
That's interesting. We have to realize there's another dimension than just what meets the eye.
00:23:46.495 --> 00:23:52.055
Yeah, and in Matthew 27, 54, so when the centurion, the Roman soldier,
00:23:52.295 --> 00:23:56.815
and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and the things
00:23:56.815 --> 00:23:59.675
that happened, they feared greatly.
00:23:59.975 --> 00:24:04.315
They, sometimes we think of just the ones, the one centurion,
00:24:04.415 --> 00:24:10.355
and it says they feared greatly, saying, truly, this was the Son of God.
00:24:11.055 --> 00:24:18.575
So they came to believe that he was the son. Well, he is the son of God. Not just was, he is.
00:24:18.935 --> 00:24:21.975
He is the son of God. Because he is alive. That's why he is.
00:24:22.175 --> 00:24:24.755
And so the pagan Roman soldiers...
00:24:25.953 --> 00:24:29.773
And this group of men believed that he was the son of God.
00:24:29.893 --> 00:24:33.333
They could have been the ones who were watching. And the Jewish religious leaders
00:24:33.333 --> 00:24:38.333
totally rejected him. Spit and scoffed. Spit and scoffed at him. Talk about a contrast.
00:24:38.733 --> 00:24:43.193
Talk about a conversion. These people who nailed him to the cross doing their
00:24:43.193 --> 00:24:45.693
job because they had to do that. That was their job.
00:24:46.133 --> 00:24:50.273
They're the ones who pulled back and said, wait a minute, we've made a mistake here.
00:24:50.853 --> 00:24:55.273
And then it says, continuing on, that there were among those who were at the
00:24:55.273 --> 00:24:57.873
foot of the cross, and women who followed Jesus from Galilee,
00:24:58.073 --> 00:25:01.893
ministering to him, were there looking on from afar.
00:25:02.053 --> 00:25:06.833
So we know earlier in the crucifixion that John, they got the apostle John and
00:25:06.833 --> 00:25:08.393
Mary, the mother of Jesus, were nearby.
00:25:08.693 --> 00:25:14.253
And so Jesus called them over, and he gave John the job of taking care of his
00:25:14.253 --> 00:25:18.513
mother from then on, because, of course, her husband Joseph was already gone.
00:25:18.513 --> 00:25:24.233
And so he gave, now John, it would appear, was Jesus' cousin.
00:25:24.773 --> 00:25:29.713
And so according to Josephus, according to Edersheim, who's done a lot of work
00:25:29.713 --> 00:25:33.073
on the cross and the history of what's going on in those days,
00:25:33.593 --> 00:25:39.413
there were several, as we see in Matthew chapter, again, 27, 56.
00:25:40.253 --> 00:25:44.913
Among whom, he says, there were many women who followed Jesus, ministering to him.
00:25:45.113 --> 00:25:48.853
There were, looking from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene.
00:25:48.853 --> 00:25:50.153
Of course, we'd expect her to be there.
00:25:50.673 --> 00:25:55.213
Mary, the mother of James and Joseph and the mother of Zebedee's sons.
00:25:55.753 --> 00:25:59.773
So who are these Marys? And another place it says, the other Mary.
00:26:00.673 --> 00:26:03.893
There's lots of Marys. Yeah, there's lots of Marys. Let's go there.
00:26:04.173 --> 00:26:08.993
And in John, he says, now they're stood by the cross. This is John, let's see, what?
00:26:09.313 --> 00:26:12.253
18 or 19. 19, 25.
00:26:13.693 --> 00:26:17.693
Now, there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother and his mother's sister,
00:26:18.415 --> 00:26:22.715
Mary, the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. So there's three Marys there.
00:26:22.955 --> 00:26:27.975
Mary, the mother of Jesus, Mary, the wife of Cleophas. Cleophas was Joseph's
00:26:27.975 --> 00:26:32.055
brother, so that would be Mary's brother-in-law, or Mary, this Mary would be
00:26:32.055 --> 00:26:36.655
Mary's sister-in-law, and then also Mary's,
00:26:37.355 --> 00:26:42.215
sister, and her name was Salome, and she was the mother of James and John.
00:26:42.355 --> 00:26:44.175
She was the wife of Zebedee.
00:26:44.555 --> 00:26:49.235
So we have relatives here at the cross. We have Mary. We have her sister-in-law.
00:26:49.435 --> 00:26:53.715
We have also her sister, who was named Salome.
00:26:54.475 --> 00:26:57.615
And so again, we have, I'll read that, I'll say that again.
00:26:57.875 --> 00:27:01.895
Salome was Mary's, the mother of Jesus, was that Mary's sister,
00:27:01.895 --> 00:27:05.855
and she was married to Zebedee. And Zebedee, of course, was the father of James and John.
00:27:06.175 --> 00:27:09.015
James and John, of course, were part of the apostles.
00:27:09.475 --> 00:27:13.795
And then we have the other Mary, Mary Cleophas. Cleophas' wife,
00:27:13.915 --> 00:27:16.135
Cleophas, was the brother of Joseph.
00:27:16.935 --> 00:27:20.755
And also Cleophas' name also is Alphaeus, so we have a little confusion here.
00:27:21.115 --> 00:27:25.695
So these hurt children were also disciples. They were James,
00:27:26.115 --> 00:27:28.415
Joseph, and Simon the Zealot.
00:27:29.555 --> 00:27:34.815
And so we have at least one, two, three, four, five relatives of Jesus,
00:27:35.155 --> 00:27:41.395
maybe cousins, first cousins, second cousins, that were chosen as his apostles,
00:27:41.415 --> 00:27:44.095
which kind of makes sense if you ask me.
00:27:45.015 --> 00:27:49.135
And so we have this group of women at the cross.
00:27:50.135 --> 00:27:54.715
And I believe Mary wasn't at the cross immediately at the cross when all this
00:27:54.715 --> 00:27:59.555
final stuff was going on because John took her away, and maybe she took to the
00:27:59.555 --> 00:28:02.835
back because this was too much for her.
00:28:03.155 --> 00:28:06.435
So we see that they're surrounded by some faithful people, but we don't hear
00:28:06.435 --> 00:28:10.695
of any of the other disciples being there except John. Peter, of course, had fled.
00:28:11.215 --> 00:28:14.875
Judas had hung himself or went out and killed himself. And the rest of them,
00:28:14.955 --> 00:28:15.635
who knows where they were.
00:28:15.715 --> 00:28:22.875
The only one was there was John, and he was taking care of Mary. So Mary was there.
00:28:23.095 --> 00:28:25.475
She, of course, and Mary Magdalene, of course, she was there.
00:28:25.955 --> 00:28:31.875
So we don't have a whole lot of people that hung with Jesus Christ to the bitter end, but we see some.
00:28:32.729 --> 00:28:37.929
Yeah, we see the faithfulness of these women and the, you know,
00:28:38.789 --> 00:28:43.709
John being probably one of the youngest apostles.
00:28:44.089 --> 00:28:48.289
He was there, and he was really so close to Jesus.
00:28:48.569 --> 00:28:53.829
He was the one who Jesus loved. He refers to himself, not by name,
00:28:53.909 --> 00:28:55.669
but he says the one who Jesus loved.
00:28:56.009 --> 00:29:01.769
And so it's interesting, on the cross, Jesus made provision for his mother.
00:29:02.469 --> 00:29:06.309
Yeah. Yeah. It's great. He's so sweet and sensitive.
00:29:06.549 --> 00:29:11.089
He's taking care of so many, there's so many things, just things that he said
00:29:11.089 --> 00:29:13.429
on the cross. He said, you know, it is finished.
00:29:14.089 --> 00:29:16.829
Father, I forgive them for they know not what they do. That's a big one.
00:29:16.949 --> 00:29:18.009
Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.
00:29:19.089 --> 00:29:21.549
Then he said to the thief, you'll be with me today in paradise.
00:29:21.589 --> 00:29:23.509
Paradise, yeah. So all these things.
00:29:23.729 --> 00:29:27.209
He's still, you know, saving people, helping people. He's saving people when
00:29:27.209 --> 00:29:30.629
he's dying on the cross. And, you know, even the blood money,
00:29:30.629 --> 00:29:34.029
even the blood money that was paid for him, the 30 pieces of silver,
00:29:34.209 --> 00:29:37.089
with that he purchased a place for strangers to be buried.
00:29:37.349 --> 00:29:43.909
Then we have, he became the substitute for Barabbas, so he released that murderous
00:29:43.909 --> 00:29:46.509
man through Jesus' death.
00:29:46.769 --> 00:29:49.889
And even now he's making provision for his mother.
00:29:50.129 --> 00:29:55.409
He's still working. But anyway, going back to the evening, when the evening had come, of course,
00:29:56.009 --> 00:29:59.829
they had to quickly get these bodies down off the cross because,
00:29:59.829 --> 00:30:04.649
he says, Joseph of Arimathea came because this was the preparation day.
00:30:04.849 --> 00:30:06.829
The next day was the Sabbath.
00:30:07.069 --> 00:30:12.509
So they at, you know, Friday, Saturday. They won't need dead bodies on the cross on the Sabbath day.
00:30:12.529 --> 00:30:16.169
And, you know, I've always had a problem understanding how this was three days
00:30:16.169 --> 00:30:20.729
and three nights because if you go, you know, English time or Roman time,
00:30:20.909 --> 00:30:23.829
it doesn't look like, it looks like we're missing one day or one night.
00:30:24.189 --> 00:30:28.969
Yeah. But we're going to show you how this was, three days and three nights,
00:30:29.069 --> 00:30:30.889
like Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of oil.
00:30:31.089 --> 00:30:32.509
It doesn't say three full days.
00:30:32.789 --> 00:30:36.389
It doesn't say three full nights. Remember? It says three days and three nights.
00:30:36.529 --> 00:30:42.389
So, okay. We have to keep in mind that the Jewish people counted days differently than what we do.
00:30:43.069 --> 00:30:48.369
Okay? So the day would begin at sunset, not sunrise.
00:30:49.549 --> 00:30:56.829
So, basically, if you look at it this way, Friday starts at sundown on Thursday,
00:30:57.769 --> 00:31:02.429
in the way of Jewish people counting the days, the weeks.
00:31:03.109 --> 00:31:06.389
And then Friday ends at sundown.
00:31:07.269 --> 00:31:13.149
And then Saturday starts at sundown on Friday, ends at sundown on Saturday.
00:31:13.649 --> 00:31:23.289
Sunday starts at sundown on Saturday, and Sunday it ends at sundown.
00:31:23.449 --> 00:31:28.369
So basically... So you start on Thursday. You have to start your count on Thursday.
00:31:28.829 --> 00:31:33.429
Jesus died on Good Friday, which would, during the day, right.
00:31:34.569 --> 00:31:40.849
That day, day one includes the day and the previous night, even though Jesus died in the day.
00:31:41.049 --> 00:31:47.689
So although only part of Friday was left, that was the first day and night to be counted.
00:31:48.469 --> 00:31:54.109
Saturday was day two. Jesus rose in the morning of the Sunday. That was day three.
00:31:54.849 --> 00:31:59.729
So by the Jewish method of counting, we have three days and nights.
00:31:59.969 --> 00:32:02.629
Yet Jesus rose on the third day.
00:32:02.949 --> 00:32:06.409
So again, going back, you have to start your count on the right time.
00:32:06.529 --> 00:32:09.209
You have to start at Thursday night.
00:32:09.409 --> 00:32:11.129
So Jesus at sundown.
00:32:11.369 --> 00:32:14.109
Yeah, Thursday at sundown, which...
00:32:14.608 --> 00:32:20.208
That begins the count instead of, you know. So you understand the way they counted
00:32:20.208 --> 00:32:22.768
the days and nights. There's no problem there.
00:32:23.368 --> 00:32:24.988
Three days and three nights, it's
00:32:24.988 --> 00:32:29.248
not a scriptural. I mean, there's not a contradiction in the scripture.
00:32:29.348 --> 00:32:31.628
You just have to know where to start the count. You just have to know where
00:32:31.628 --> 00:32:33.988
they started the count for the days and nights.
00:32:34.468 --> 00:32:39.148
He says, after three days I will rise. He had given that information,
00:32:39.148 --> 00:32:42.788
and that had been the scribes and Pharisees had picked that up.
00:32:42.788 --> 00:32:47.348
So after they took Jesus down from the cross, Pilate gave permission.
00:32:47.588 --> 00:32:52.688
They had to hurry. This was Friday coming on into the night.
00:32:52.688 --> 00:32:56.268
They had to get him off the cross before Saturday started. It was called the preparation day.
00:32:56.448 --> 00:32:59.468
Saturday started at about, maybe, I don't know, sundown on Friday night.
00:32:59.688 --> 00:33:05.948
So after he died on the cross at 3 o'clock, they had from 3 to 4 to 5,
00:33:06.128 --> 00:33:09.688
maybe to 6, three hours to get him off that cross. Before sundown.
00:33:09.688 --> 00:33:13.788
First of all, get the permission, then get him off that cross and get him somewhere. By sundown.
00:33:13.988 --> 00:33:18.288
Yeah, in three hours. They had to do that. So Joseph and Nicodemus worked on
00:33:18.288 --> 00:33:21.888
that, went to Pilate. Pilate says, is he dead already? And they said, yep.
00:33:22.028 --> 00:33:25.328
And so they didn't break his bones. They just jabbed him with the spear.
00:33:26.248 --> 00:33:28.608
That proved that he was dead. Proved that he was already dead.
00:33:28.728 --> 00:33:31.488
And soâ Otherwise, they would break the bones.
00:33:31.708 --> 00:33:35.348
They broke the bones of the thieves, the legs, leg bones of the thieves.
00:33:35.468 --> 00:33:39.068
So they couldn't sustain theirâthey couldn't inhale and exhale anymore.
00:33:39.688 --> 00:33:43.448
And so he's taken down, he's put in this tomb.
00:33:43.708 --> 00:33:50.108
Joseph brings 100 pounds of myrrh and alice and all this to embalm or put this
00:33:50.108 --> 00:33:54.988
around the body until they could get back to it on Sunday, our Sunday.
00:33:55.288 --> 00:33:58.868
And so they couldn't do anything on Saturday, so the women were waiting as soon
00:33:58.868 --> 00:34:03.868
as the sun came up on our Sunday morning, which would be Easter Sunday,
00:34:04.168 --> 00:34:05.208
Resurrection Sunday, whatever.
00:34:05.975 --> 00:34:09.495
And so they were back to go back to work to finish the embalming.
00:34:09.695 --> 00:34:13.515
And that's when they found out he was gone. But in the meantime,
00:34:13.995 --> 00:34:21.995
it says that the preparation, the people went to Pilate and said,
00:34:22.095 --> 00:34:23.575
you know, he said he's going to rise again.
00:34:23.975 --> 00:34:28.575
Therefore, they were concerned. And Pilate gave them the command to make the
00:34:28.575 --> 00:34:30.855
tomb as secure as they could.
00:34:30.875 --> 00:34:33.015
He said to them, you have a guard.
00:34:33.535 --> 00:34:36.855
Go your way. make it as secure as you know how.
00:34:37.415 --> 00:34:43.835
And so they did that. They went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guards.
00:34:43.935 --> 00:34:47.815
So they made it secure. They got some guards and they sealed it with the Roman
00:34:47.815 --> 00:34:51.175
seal so that if- It was officially locked.
00:34:51.395 --> 00:34:54.895
Nobody messes with this. With the seal of Rome. And so, you know,
00:34:54.975 --> 00:34:57.135
what they do is they put a wax seal on something in it.
00:34:57.275 --> 00:35:00.135
And so therefore, if it's broken into the seal, it's gotta be broken.
00:35:00.315 --> 00:35:04.615
So it's a sign of the authority. So Rome could not hold him.
00:35:04.795 --> 00:35:07.875
Of the most powerful nation on earth at the time.
00:35:07.875 --> 00:35:12.155
And he destroyed it and he defeated it and he broke the seal through his death
00:35:12.155 --> 00:35:16.635
and resurrection. One man, not an army, not a legion of angels.
00:35:17.295 --> 00:35:21.195
One man, and God raised his son back to life.
00:35:21.475 --> 00:35:25.415
And by the way, when Jesus was gone for three days, where do you suppose he was?
00:35:25.495 --> 00:35:28.415
Well, he had actually made a trip down into the belly of hell,
00:35:28.715 --> 00:35:33.715
or Sheol, and led captivity captive. and all the people who had died before
00:35:33.715 --> 00:35:37.155
the cross got a chance to accept the cross.
00:35:37.355 --> 00:35:42.195
And we see that in Peter chapter... Let's see. Chapter...
00:35:42.614 --> 00:35:46.194
Hold on. 1 Peter, I think it is. Or is it 2 Peter?
00:35:46.454 --> 00:35:50.974
Oh, hold on. It says 1 Peter, yeah. He led captivity captive and gave gifts
00:35:50.974 --> 00:35:54.034
to men. He preached to those that were in prison.
00:35:54.434 --> 00:35:58.174
And it says, for Christ has also suffered once for sin, the just for the unjust,
00:35:58.314 --> 00:36:02.614
that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh and being alive
00:36:02.614 --> 00:36:06.334
in the Spirit, by whom he also went and preached to the spirits in prison.
00:36:06.894 --> 00:36:11.294
Who formerly were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in
00:36:11.294 --> 00:36:15.254
the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few,
00:36:15.354 --> 00:36:17.194
that is eight souls, were saved through waters.
00:36:17.354 --> 00:36:21.554
Then he goes on in verse chapter 4 of 1 Peter, chapter 4, verse 6,
00:36:21.614 --> 00:36:26.394
he goes on and continues, for this reason the gospel was preached to those also,
00:36:26.394 --> 00:36:30.534
to those also who were dead, that they might be judged according to men in the
00:36:30.534 --> 00:36:32.174
flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
00:36:32.274 --> 00:36:36.394
So they were given the gospel, given an opportunity to accept the gospel,
00:36:36.514 --> 00:36:40.734
and that's That's why Jesus was able to take them out of this holding dock and
00:36:40.734 --> 00:36:44.334
take them, led captive to captive, gave gifts to men, and brought them into
00:36:44.334 --> 00:36:45.314
the place of eternal salvation.
00:36:45.314 --> 00:36:48.574
Because they did not know the cross, but once he preached the cross to them
00:36:48.574 --> 00:36:52.834
down there in the belly of wherever, they said yes, and so they flew up with him to heaven.
00:36:53.234 --> 00:37:00.154
And so he went there to preach, not only to preach to these captives,
00:37:00.674 --> 00:37:05.814
give them the gospel, but he took the keys of hell and death.
00:37:05.834 --> 00:37:09.854
He got them back, yeah. He got the keys of hell and death back from the serpent.
00:37:10.054 --> 00:37:11.494
Snatched them from Adam and Eve.
00:37:11.834 --> 00:37:16.714
He says, I have the keys of hell and death. So praise God. He has authority
00:37:16.714 --> 00:37:18.754
over hell and death and the grave.
00:37:19.014 --> 00:37:22.574
And this is amazing. He is risen. He is alive.
00:37:22.854 --> 00:37:26.374
And this is a real thing. Death could not hold him. Yep, it really happened.
00:37:26.614 --> 00:37:31.294
We have times. We have dates. We have prophecies. We have four accounts of this
00:37:31.294 --> 00:37:34.694
whole thing going on, and we have historical accounts as well.
00:37:35.232 --> 00:37:40.832
And so, Father God, we just praise you and thank you for this finished work. It is finished.
00:37:41.112 --> 00:37:45.572
The gospel, the law has been satisfied. The gospel has been released into the
00:37:45.572 --> 00:37:51.392
world that whosoever will believe, receive that atonement for their sins as
00:37:51.392 --> 00:37:55.032
purchased through the blood of Jesus Christ can be and will be saved.
00:37:55.172 --> 00:37:59.052
So it's simply, we accept your salvation, your free gift.
00:37:59.272 --> 00:38:04.372
We pray that that revelation, that good news will just fly throughout the earth,
00:38:04.512 --> 00:38:08.372
Father God, and everywhere and every place and everyone will have a chance to
00:38:08.372 --> 00:38:15.652
hear the good news and not be deluded and deceived and snatched away by the devil's narratives.
00:38:15.912 --> 00:38:20.432
And that this Resurrection Sunday, this time, this week, which is Passover week,
00:38:20.512 --> 00:38:24.532
by the way, we declare that your will be done, O God, and that the clutter and
00:38:24.532 --> 00:38:30.232
the foolishness and the fables will be snatched away,
00:38:30.932 --> 00:38:36.012
pushed up, brushed off the table, and that we will see in truth what has happened
00:38:36.012 --> 00:38:38.592
here, and we will give you praise and glory, Father, in Jesus' name.
00:38:38.752 --> 00:38:43.192
Yeah, and the proof that you have risen from the dead is in the transformation
00:38:43.192 --> 00:38:45.472
of lives who put their faith in you, Lord.
00:38:45.572 --> 00:38:50.412
Amen. People who put their faith in you that become new creations that are born
00:38:50.412 --> 00:38:53.552
again to a new life in the Spirit of God.
00:38:54.252 --> 00:38:59.572
Lord, that's one of the proofs that you're risen from the dead is because when
00:38:59.572 --> 00:39:01.772
people believe in you, we are risen.
00:39:02.172 --> 00:39:09.152
We are raised from the death of sin and shame and brought into life and life more abundantly.
00:39:09.432 --> 00:39:13.192
Thank you so much, Lord, for your love and your faithfulness to us,
00:39:13.332 --> 00:39:14.532
Lord. Yes, Father God, amen.
00:39:15.052 --> 00:39:18.912
And we encourage you again to go to liferecovery.com. This week would be a perfect
00:39:18.912 --> 00:39:21.012
week to check out God on Trial.
00:39:21.532 --> 00:39:25.332
It's an audio drama about the story of the crucifixion, the war between God
00:39:25.332 --> 00:39:29.712
and Satan for the souls of men, ending with Jesus descending into the belly
00:39:29.712 --> 00:39:31.592
of hell and raising from the dead.
00:39:31.772 --> 00:39:38.312
So again, chapters, episodes 26, 7, 4, 5, 6, and 7.
00:39:38.472 --> 00:39:42.092
Anyway, they're all just really amazing. You're going to get some drama,
00:39:42.232 --> 00:39:44.192
some dialogue, some court action.
00:39:44.332 --> 00:39:49.272
I would encourage you to just pick up those MP3s off the Life Recovery website
00:39:49.272 --> 00:39:54.272
and enjoy a real powerful experience in your life.
00:39:54.412 --> 00:39:57.432
And sometimes people think of listening to something audio like that,
00:39:57.532 --> 00:39:58.512
oh, this is kind of boring.
00:39:58.632 --> 00:40:02.632
This is not boring. No, this is not boring. This is fun. It's great.
00:40:02.632 --> 00:40:03.752
It'll keep you on the edge.
00:40:03.952 --> 00:40:08.692
God bless you and have a wonderful resurrection in Jesus' name. Amen.
00:40:08.720 --> 00:40:38.682
Music.
